Well Pumps & Water Treatment

Pump repair and replacement, pressure tanks, water testing, softeners, and filters.

What it is

When a well pump quits, the house has no water, so pump companies get a lot of urgent calls. They repair and replace submersible and jet pumps, pressure tanks, pressure switches, and the wiring that runs them.

Water treatment companies test well water and install systems to fix problems like hardness, iron, sulfur smell, bacteria, or sediment. Common systems include softeners, iron filters, UV lights, and reverse osmosis.

The water line from the well to the house, yard hydrants, and pressure tank swaps are also covered by rural plumbers; the pump circuit and backup generator by rural electricians.

Test first, then treat. A lab test tells you what is actually in the water, so you do not pay for equipment you do not need.

What workers in this trade earn in rural areas

This is worker pay (hourly wages), not what a job costs you. It helps contractors set fair crew pay and helps landowners see why labor is part of a quote.

Questions to ask a contractor

  • Do you offer emergency or same-day service?
  • Can you tell whether it is the pump, the pressure tank, or the switch before replacing anything?
  • What warranty comes with the pump and the labor?
  • For treatment: will you test the water first, at a certified lab?
  • What upkeep does the treatment system need, and what does it cost each year?
  • Are you licensed for pump work in my state, where required?

FAQ

What are signs my well pump is failing?

No water, low or changing pressure, sputtering faucets, a pump that turns on and off quickly, or a higher electric bill. A pump pro can check the pump, pressure tank, and controls.

Do I need a water softener?

Only if your water is hard enough to cause problems. A water test shows the hardness level. Iron, sulfur, or bacteria need different treatment, so test first.

How often should I test my well water?

At least once a year, per the CDC, and again after flooding or any change in taste, color, or smell.
